IALEP Police Planners Course

The first IALEP Police Planners Course was held May 13-17, 2000 at Kansas City, Missouri.  All of the participants thought it a great success and hope to see it return even better next year.

IALEP members:

If you get an opportunity to attend IALEP's Basic Police Planner's Course the next time it's offered, jump on it. Last week's Basic Planner's Course in Kansas City was excellent. I came away with new enthusiasm for my job and a complete set of professional tools for tackling complex projects. The instructors were knowledgeable and well prepared, they freely shared their expertise, and they encouraged participation from the class.

To everyone involved in organizing and presenting this course, thank you.

On behalf of the instructors (Peter Bellmio, Steve Taratula, Barry Horrobin), we enjoyed teaching the basic course. The attendees were a bunch of good sports! We worked them to near death with hardly a complaint. As our test subjects, they provided us with a lot of good feedback on making next year's course even better (No...There will be no evening classes, the CPTED and Crime Analysis sessions will be re-configured, Steve will speak louder, I will speak slower, and the "Phantom Disk" will be in everyone's registration packet).

I appreciate Laurie's kind words and hope that we can build upon our success in the coming years. Hey...in a few years you guys will be teaching this course!

Sounds like a great course....for all of us! Is there a chance you can change the name of the course so that some of us who need/want to brush up on techniques or learn them for the first time(!) can get approval to go from our food chains? The word "Basic" kicks me out right from the get-go....viewed as a waste of money after 14yrs in planning....and believe me, I KNOW I could use the course!!!!!!!!

Sandy raises a good point. Steve Taratula and the Exec. Board thought about changing the name of the course as well. Perhaps we could use "The IALEP's Planner's Course - Second Session" when we hold it next year. Sort of like the FBI, SMIP, SPI, etc., We could tell who is getting "long in the tooth" by tracking what session you attend! A name change is fine by me. Let Bill and the Board know what your pleasure is on this one.




As of June 2000 a location and date has not been set for the second Planners Course.  If interested in the course you should check the web site regularly.
