2022 IALEP Conference Cancelled

It is with a heavy heart that the IALEP Executive Board is announcing the cancellation of the 2022 Annual Training Conference in Colorado Springs that was scheduled for September 19th-21st.

We carefully reviewed the feedback we received from the survey regarding conference attendance. The majority of the survey respondents indicated that it was unlikely for them to attend the planned conference. The reasons provided included:

  • Concerns about ongoing COVID-related travel restrictions
  • Agency’s travel and training budgets have been severely cut
  • Justification of costs related to the length of the conference and/or travel time required

Hosting a conference that would only be attended by a small fraction of the membership is not financially sustainable for an organization of our size.

Alternatively, the Board has had several inquiries on the IALEP Planners Course. The Board has shared that we would like to refresh the curriculum but were focusing attention on the Conference which allowed limited opportunity to completely recreate the Planners Course concurrently. After extensive discussion and consideration, the IALEP Board has decided to offer a Planners Course later this fall in Scottsdale, AZ as there is a higher demand to attend a Planners Course than there was a demand for the Annual Training Conference.

The Planners Course curriculum is going to be revised to meet the current demands of a law enforcement planner today, reflecting several of the competencies and topical areas included in the newest certification application. This new Planners Course will look to be an opportunity for new planners to learn the roles and responsibilities of a planner, and also provide a new perspective to more tenured planners who may have already attended a course or have been in their role. More information will be shared as details are confirmed, including topical areas, location, dates, and registration costs.

We know that this Planners Course may not solve some of the concerns relayed to us in the survey, but we do hope that it will provide an intentional opportunity for those who have been looking for this resource. The Board hopes to be able to provide more opportunities for the course to occur across North America in the coming years, returning to a more normal schedule of classes like we once had.

The Board thanks you for your honest input in our survey regarding the Annual Conference and we hope that we can provide another opportunity in the future.
